Classes meet once a week and are organized in 6-week sessions. Instruction focuses on learning dance and/or fitness movements and technique. Bellydance classes may include choreography, and also include instruction on improvisation, cultural history, costuming, and performance dynamics. Class descriptions below are in week, day and time order.

Above all, bellydance & fitness should be fun! The Oasis Dance Studio emphasizes a supportive and joyful teaching style. Some comments from students:

One hour classes $60/six-week session, Drop-in $12 (unless otherwise noted)

Politti's Pilates

This special 1-hour PILATES MAT class is a class for dancers or ANYONE wanting to get in excellent shape, and who wish to improve core strength, range of motion, muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility. Exercises and movements are performed on a mat, focusing on "CORE CONDITIONING": The strengthening and stabilization of the abdominal, spine and pelvis. This is a beginning fundamental level class - ALL are welcome. Please bring your own mat and theraband (if you have them), as a limited supply will be available at The Oasis.


Fee: $12 per class @ The Oasis / $20 per class off-site

Introduction to Tai Chi with Cheyenne
Monday mornings ~ 11 am -12 noon

Learn basic tai chi movement and breathing techniques. Students will improve balance and core strength, and reduce stress. Class will focus on the Yang Short Form of Tai Chi.

Fee $60/session, $12 drop-in

Strong to the Core with Politti Ashcraft
Monday eves ~ 6:30 - 7:30 pm

This unique class begins with an energizing Pilates Mat based workout focusing on "core conditioning": the strengthening and stabilization of the abdominal, spine and pelvis.  After our "mat-work", we will finish the class with isolated bellydance moves, from our head to our toes, to increase each dancers' strength, flexibilty, coordination and muscle tone.  Please bring your own Yoga mat and Thera-Band (if you have them) as a limited supply will be available at The Oasis. This class can be used as a complete warm up for the Tribal Basics Class.

Tribal Basics I with Politti Ashcraft
Monday eves ~ 7:30 - 8:30 pm

This beginning class will introduce students to basic movements from the FatChanceBellyDance ATS (American Tribal Style) Bellydance format. Finger cymbals will be introduced, and integrated into beginning movements. Students will begin to learn and practice leading and following all basic fast and slow movements in a group formation. This class is required before moving on to Tribal Basics II.

Pops, Locks & Bellydance Fusion with Edenia
Tuesday eves ~ 5:30 - 6:30 pm

Pops, Locks, Ticks and Tocks are all the rage in today's belly dance scene, and The Oasis is excited to have one of the best up-and-coming fusion belly dancers teaching this weekly class! Edenia will guide you through combos and drills she has designed to strengthen specific body isolations to add to your belly dance for that edgy "urban" look. Each class starts with a short warm up and stretch, and choreographies may also be taught.

Advanced Tribal Bellydance* with Politti Ashcraft
Tuesday eves ~ 6:30 - 7:30 pm

This is an advanced performance prep class. Class focus is continued instruction of ATS (FatChanceBellyDance format) and other tribal bellydance improvisational moves, combos, cues and transitions, with a strong emphasis on technique and timing, and improvisational group dance. Students must be proficient with finger cymbals.

*Students must take and pass an exam to attend this class - by instructor referral only

Building on Tribal Basics I, this class will add more steps from the FatChanceBellyDance format to your improvisational vocabulary, improve your isolations and movements, continue to develop your finger cymbals, and work towards more experience dancing in formation.

Technique & Choreography with Politti Ashcraft
Wednesday eves ~ 7:30 - 8:30 pm

"Swimming Through Honey: Slow Moves & The Mind-Body Connection"*
In order to control how the body moves, one must first control the mindů The focus of this 6-week class will be slowing down, breathing through and controlling slow moves used in Fusion Bellydance. We will look at sections of our bodies, what makes them move, and how to move them slowly and effortlessly. This class is beneficial to all Bellydancers who desire adding Super-Duper Oooey-Goooeyness to their dance stylings.

*Some Bellydance experience is required

Tribal Basics I
Ths beginning class will introduce students to body isolations, basic movements from the FatChanceBellyDance format, and dancing as a group. Finger cymbals will be introduced, and integrated into beginning movements. Beginning students will begin to develop their finger cymbol skills, and learn to lead and follow all basic movements, before moving to the Tribal Basics II.

Tribal Basics II*
Building on Tribal Basics I, this class will add more steps from the FatChanceBellyDance format to your improvisational vocabulary, improve your isolations and movements, continue to develop your finger cymbols, and work towards more experience dancing in formation. *Instructor referral is required

Advanced Bellydance/Performance Preparation Class with Basima
Thursday eves ~ 5:30 - 6:30 pm

For students who have mastered fundamental bellydance movements and are ready to develop their personal dance style throught more difficult choreographies and improvisation. American Cabaret style with a blend of Egyptian, Lebanese and Turkish dance steps will be taught and students will learn challenging layering and shimmy techniques. The class will include instruction with a variety of props including: veil, finger cymbals, cane and sword. Performance dynamics, makeup and costuming will be presented and students will have performance opportunities, both group and solo.

NEW!! Zumba with Ana
Thursday eves ~ 6:30 - 7:30 pm

Zumba combines high energy and motivating music with unique moves and combinations that allow the Zumba participants to dance away their worries. It is based on the principle that a workout should be "FUN AND EASY TO DO" in order for Zumba participants to stick to the Zumba fitness program to achieve long-term health benefits. Zumba is not only great for the body, but is also great for the mind. It is a "feel-happy" workout. ZUMBA is a fusion of Latin and International music - dance themes creating a dynamic, exciting, effective fitness system! The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. Zumba utilizes the principals of fitness interval training and resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning and total body toning. It targets areas such as glutes, legs, arms, abdominals and the most important muscle in the body, the heart. It is a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps. The name Zumba comes from a Colombian expression that means to move fast and have fun.

Beginning - Intermediate Bellydance with Zaheen
Saturday mornings ~ 10:30 to 11:30 am

Learn the basic technique, posture, and body alignment of Middle Eastern dance. Introduces foundation movements including shimmies, undulations, hip work, isolations, and traveling steps. No prior dance experience necessary.

Bellydance for Kids! with Roz
Sunday afternoons ~ 3 - 4 pm

Students will culturally experience a form of Belly Dance that is age appropriate and focuses on Egyptian and Arabic folklore/cabaret technique.  We will work with veil and cane to lively, upbeat music as well as more classical pieces. Age range: 8-16 years, but will accept younger students capable of staying focused – Mom’s welcome too!  No prior dance experience required.
