Classes meet once a week and are organized in 6-week sessions. Instruction focuses on learning belly dance movements and technique. Classes may include choreography, and also include instruction on improvisation, cultural history, costuming, and performance dynamics. Classes descripts below are in week day and time order.
Above all, bellydance should be fun! Oasis Dance Studio emphasizes a supportive and joyful teaching style. Some comments from students:

**Special Class**
This special 1-hour PILATES MAT class is a class for dancers or ANYONE wanting to get in excellent shape, and who wish to improve core strength, range of motion, muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility. Exercises and movements are performed on a mat, focusing on "CORE CONDITIONING": The strengthening and stabilization of the abdominal, spine and pelvis. This is a beginning fundamental level class - ALL are welcome. Please bring your own mat and theraband (if you have them), as a limited supply will be available at The Oasis.

Introduction to Tai Chi with Cheyenne
Monday's at 11 am-12 noon
Learn basic tai chi movement and breathing techniques. Students will improve balance and core strength, and reduce stress. Class will focus on the Yang Short Form of Tai Chi.

Strong to the Core with Politti Ashcraft
Monday's at 6:30-7:30 pm
This unique class begins with an energizing Pilates Mat based workout focusing on "core conditioning": the strengthening and stabilization of the abdominal, spine and pelvis. After our "mat-work", we will finish the class with isolated bellydance moves, from our head to our toes, to increase each dancers' strength, flexibilty, coordination and muscle tone. Please bring your own Yoga mat and Thera-Band (if you have them) as a limited supply will be available at The Oasis. This class can be used as a complete warm up for the Tribal Basics Class.

Tribal Basics I with Politti Ashcraft
Monday's at 7:30-8:30 pm
This beginning class will introduce students to body isolations, basic movements from the FatChanceBellyDance format, and dancing as a group. Finger cymbals will be introduced, and integrated into beginning movements. Beginning students will begin to develop their finger cymbal skills, and learn to lead and follow all basic fast and slow movements, before moving to the Tribal Basics II.

Pops, Locks & Tribal Fusion Bellydance with Edenia
Tuesday's at 5:30-6:30 pm
Pops, Locks, Ticks and Tocks are all the rage in today's belly dance scene, and The Oasis is excited to have one of the best up-and-coming fusion belly dancers teaching this weekly class! Edenia will guide you through combos and drills she has designed to strengthen specific body isolations to add to your belly dance for that edgy "urban" look. Each class starts with a short warm up and stretch, and choreographies may also be taught.

Intermediate - Advanced Tribal Bellydance with Politti Ashcraft
Tuesday's at 6:30-7:30 pm
This intermediate/advanced class main focus is continued instruction of ATS (FatChanceBellyDance format) and other tribal bellydance movements, combos, cues, and transitions, with a strong emphasis on technique and timing, and improvisational group dance. Students must be proficient with finger cymbals. Students must take and pass an exam to attend this class - by instructor referral only.

"Disco Tribal! "

Boogie Nights, Disco Fever, and American Tribal Style Bellydance??? Girl, you'd better believe it!!! Politti Ashcraft of Blue Damsel Dance Co. will show you just what happens when Disco music and Tribal Bellydance collide…. Pure, high- energy, movin' and groovin' FUN! Politti will teach you a super-funk-a-delic choreography by combining basic ATS with classic Disco moves to the 1978 classic: “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire. Be prepared to get down, and get funky – cause we're gonna boogie-oogie-oogie ‘til we just can't boogie no more! **Mandatory performance dates: Friday, August 8 & Saturday, August 16, 2008**

Intermediate - Advanced Belly Dance with Arlette
Thursdays at 7-8 pm
Fast paced combos and layering is the focus of this intermediate class. Based on the Ansuya format of dance, Arlette (certified by Ansuya herself!) will guide students to the next level in their belly dance. *RECENT bellydance experience is a MUST!* Please bring a yoga mat for our warm-up.

Beginning - Intermediate Bellydance with Zaheen *New one-hour format*
Saturdays, 10:30 to 11:30 am
Learn the basic technique, posture, and body alignment of Middle Eastern dance. Introduces foundation movements including shimmies, undulations, hip work, isolations, and traveling steps. No prior dance experience necessary.

Bellydance for Kids!
Sundays, 3-4 pm
Students will culturally experience a form of Belly Dance that is age appropriate and focuses on Egyptian and Arabic folklore/cabaret technique. We will work with veil and cane to lively, upbeat music as well as more classical pieces. Age range: 8-16 years, but will accept younger students capable of staying focused – Mom’s welcome too! No prior dance experience required.
