Art Through Movement at The Oasis Dance Studio Class Descriptions and Fees

Classes meet once a week and are organized in 6-week sessions. Instruction focuses on learning dance and/or fitness movements and technique. Bellydance classes may include choreography, instruction on improvisation, cultural history, costuming, and performance dynamics. Class descriptions below are in day and time order.

All classes are intended for students 18 years of age and older, however most classes will accept younger students (ages 10 to 17) who are focused and have a strong desire to learn. ALL students must read, fill out and sign a studio waiver before attending any class offered at The Oasis. Students under the age of 18 MUST have a parent or legal guardian present at all times when attending any class. Politti's Pilates

This special 1-hour PILATES MAT class is a class for dancers or ANYONE wanting to get in excellent shape, and who wish to improve core strength, range of motion, muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility. Exercises and movements are performed on a mat, focusing on "CORE CONDITIONING": The strengthening and stabilization of the abdominal, spine and pelvis. This is a beginning fundamental level class - ALL are welcome. Please bring your own mat and theraband (if you have them), as a limited supply will be available at The Oasis.


Fee: $12 per class @ The Oasis / $20 per class off-site

Introduction to Tai Chi with Cheyenne
Monday mornings ~ 11 am - 12 noon

Learn basic tai chi movement and breathing techniques. Students will improve balance and core strength, and reduce stress. Class will focus on the Yang Short Form of Tai Chi.

Strong to the Core with Politti Ashcraft
Monday eves ~ 6:30 - 7:30 pm

An energizing Pilates Mat workout focusing on "core conditioning": the strengthening and stabilization of the abdominal, spine and pelvis.   Pilates is an excellent way to increase strength, flexibilty, coordination and muscle tone - Perfect for dancers and anyone who desires an invigorating full-body workout. Please bring your own Yoga mat and Thera-Band (if you have them) as a limited supply will be available at The Oasis.

This class is wonderful as a complete warm up for the Tribal Basics 1 Class.

Fee $60/session, $12 drop-in

Tribal Basics 1 with Politti Ashcraft
Monday eves ~ 7:30 - 8:30 pm

This beginning class will introduce students to basic fast and slow movements from the FatChanceBellyDance ATS (American Tribal Style) Bellydance format. Finger cymbals will be introduced, and integrated into beginning fast movements. Students will begin to learn and practice leading and following in a group formation. This class is required before moving on to Tribal Basics 1.5.

Pops, Locks & Bellydance Fusion with Edenia
Tuesday eves ~ 5:30 - 6:30 pm

Pops, Locks, Ticks and Tocks are all the rage in today's belly dance scene, and The Oasis is excited to have one of the best up-and-coming fusion belly dancers teaching this weekly class! Edenia will guide you through combos and drills she has designed to strengthen specific body isolations to add to your belly dance for that edgy "urban" look. Each class starts with a short warm up and stretch, and choreographies may also be taught.

Advanced Tribal Bellydance* with Politti Ashcraft
Tuesday eves ~ 6:30 - 7:30 pm

This is an advanced performance prep class. Class focus is continued instruction of ATS (FatChanceBellyDance format) Bellydance moves, combos, cues and transitions, with a strong emphasis on technique, timing and stage presence to prepare students for performance opportunities with Strawberry Butterfly. Students must be proficient with finger cymbals.

*Students MUST take and PASS an exam to attend this class - by instructor referral only

Tuesday eves ~ 7:30 - 8:30 pm

This on-going class is the "stepping-stone" between Tribal Basics 1 & Tribal Basics 2 - adding more steps from the FatChanceBellyDance ATS (American Tribal Style) Bellydance format to your improvisational vocabulary. You will improve your dance technique, continue to develop your finger cymbals, and work towards more experience dancing in group formations.

*Completion of Tribal Basics 1 or knowledge of basic ATS moves is required; This class taken in conjunction with Tribal Basics 1 or Tribal Basics 2 is highly recommended

Tribal Basics 2* with Politti Ashcraft
Wednesday eves ~ 6:30 - 7:30 pm

Fast-paced and fun, in this on-going class we will put all those FatChanceBellyDance ATS (American Tribal Style) Bellydance moves you have learned in Tribal Basics 1 & Tribal Basics 1.5 to work! Class focus is dancing in formation: Duets, Trios, Quartets and Chorus; creative leadership changes and transitions; continued finger cymbal development with new zil patterns introduced; continued development of lead & follow skills in both fast & slow moves, and so much more! This class is required before testing into Advanced Tribal Bellydance. There will be some performance opportunities with Strawberry Butterfly available to students well rehearsed in this class.

Building on Tribal Basics 1, this class will add more steps from the FatChanceBellyDance ATS (American Tribal Style) Bellydance format to your improvisational vocabulary. You will improve your dance technique, continue to develop your finger cymbals, and work towards more experience dancing in group formations.

Advanced Bellydance/Performance Preparation Class with Sariana
Thursday eves ~ 5:30 - 6:30 pm

For students who have mastered fundamental bellydance movements and are ready to develop their personal dance style throught more difficult choreographies and improvisation. American Cabaret style with a blend of Egyptian, Lebanese and Turkish dance steps will be taught and students will learn challenging layering and shimmy techniques. The class will include instruction with a variety of props including: veil, finger cymbals, cane and sword. Performance dynamics, makeup and costuming will be presented and students will have performance opportunities, both group and solo.

NEW!! Bellydance for Beginners with Edenia*
Thursday eves ~ 6:30 - 7:30 pm

In this beginning class, you will learn basic bellydance moves, get some great exercise, and best of all - HAVE FUN! Class will cover the basics of hip, torso, and arm isolations, as well as simple turns, traveling steps and combinations. Please wear comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement - no street shoes (socks or dance shoes ok). *For students with no previous bellydance experience or those who want a basic bellydance movement class.
