Roz |
|
| |
Roz is an elementary/junior high school teacher by profession, having taught grades 4-8 over the past 18 years. She has taught belly dance for children, for the past five years, through an after school performing arts program in the Ontario-Montclair School District. Roz is also am part of a District Visual and Performing Arts Committee (VAPA) which implements the arts in the school curriculum through state grants. Her troupe, DANCING SANDS, which ranges in membership anywhere from 45-80 students, has performed at a number of MECDA events, including Cairo Carnivale (now the MECDA Bellydance Carnival) and Festival of Dancing Colors. Roz and the Dancing Sands have appeared at the L.A. County Fair for four years, on Time Warner Cable T.V. and in two Telethons: Rancho Cucamonga Library, Performing Arts and Chaffey College Performing Arts Foundation. They have danced at District Conferences, Expositions and two California Educational Conferences, in front of several thousand people. They also have a drum component, taught by Mr. Shady Siha of Diamond Pyramid.
Roz's love of this art form came from a very fortunate opportunity to live in Egypt for close to four years during the late 70s/early 80s. She was able to live and interact with the Egyptian people, learn a little of the language, dance technique and soak up the culture. Roz was immediately drawn to the beauty of Arabic music and dance, and experienced live performances by the bellydance/folkloric legends, on a regular basis. She is looking forward to sharing the love of this dance with young students.
